The recently released board game Talisman Magical Quest is on offer at Amazon

Talisman: The Magical Quest Game made a comeback in June, and if you haven't picked up a copy yet, the fantasy dungeon game is on sale at Amazon for $49 (was $60). Made by Avalon Hill, the developer responsible for hits like Betrayal at House on the Hill and HeroQuest, Talisman was out of print for years and therefore expensive on reseller marketplaces. You can also pre-order the first expansion, a co-op experience called Talisman Alliances: Fate beckons.

If you've never played Talisman, it's an adventure board game with light RPG mechanics where up to six players compete to claim the Crown of Lordship, defeat the Elder Dragon, and become the new ruler of the land. Each player chooses one of 12 characters to play, including Thief, Elf, Wizard, and Prophetess. The original game was released in 1983 and has been revised several times since then, most recently in 2008 as a 4th edition. The game is usually quite expensive on the reseller market, but this new 5th edition release makes it much easier to get a copy of the game.

Talisman Alliances: Fate Beckons is an exciting expansion because, for the first time in the board game's 40-year history, Talisman features a cooperative mode for two to six players. The $34 expansion set includes new characters, adventure cards, and spells. Teams will attempt to complete five trials that Avalon Hill says offer “endless replay value” due to the sheer number of variables in the mix. If you're a Talisman veteran, you'll be introduced to a new way to play the strategy game, and the cooperative mode is usually a nice introductory experience for brand new players.
