The one-story temple, with a floor area of approximately 30,000 square feet, will be built on a 25-acre site at the northwest corner of 51st Street and 136th East Avenue in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma.

The Tulsa Oklahoma Temple was announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson in October 2023. “The Lord directs us to build these temples so that we can think heavenly. God lives. Jesus is the Christ. His Church has been restored to bless all of God's children,” he said after announcing 20 new temples, including the Tulsa Oklahoma Temple.

In addition to the Tulsa Oklahoma Temple, another Oklahoma temple is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The first Latter-day Saint congregation in Oklahoma was established in 1921 in the western Sequoia area of the state with 113 members. Mission publications were translated into the Cherokee language. In 1892, the first meetinghouse was built in Manard, Cherokee County. Today, there are nearly 53,000 members in about 95 congregations in Oklahoma.

Latter-day Saints attend the temple for several reasons: to make sacred promises to God, to learn about God's plan for His children and the central role of Jesus Christ in that plan, and to unite families for eternity.
