Despite her attempts to salvage the situation by deleting the controversial caption, fans continued to criticize Spears for her “hatred” toward Lively.

Britney Spears is facing intense criticism online for seemingly outshining Blake Lively. The Toxic singer shared an “updated” version of her 2002 Versace dress, which was recently worn by the 36-year-old actress. While Lively paid tribute to Spears by wearing the iconic dress during a press event for her new film, the pop star made it clear that she likes her own version of the dress “way better.”

Lively recently made headlines for wearing the famous Versace dress to the New York premiere of her latest film, It Ends With Us. When asked by reporters about her outfit choice, she said, “It's Britney's real dress. It should be hanging in the Smithsonian or the Met. But I'm wearing it. I feel so lucky!” according to People.

On Saturday, the Gimme More singer shared a video of herself on Instagram wearing a tiny pink and blue glittery dress, calling it the “updated version” of the Versace dress she once wore. “Updated version of my 2002 Versace dress!!! I like it much better… Showing off my legs!!!” she captioned the post, which was set to the tune of Your Love by Outfield.

However, Spears' post quickly caught the attention of internet users, who criticized the singer for seemingly taking a swipe at Lively. The “Oops I Did It Again” hitmaker quickly changed the caption to “Updated version of my 2002 Versace dress!!! I'm not @blakelively but I like it… show off my legs.” Despite her attempts to salvage the situation, her fans continued to criticize her for being “hateful” toward someone who paid tribute to her. She has since deleted the caption.

A former Twitter user, An X, shared a screenshot of Spears' now-deleted caption along with the message: “Britney Spears has returned to Instagram to criticize Blake Lively for wearing her 2002 Versace dress to the 'It Ends With Us' premiere. This woman is insane!” The tweet has been viewed more than 30,000 times so far, with other users expressing similar sentiments.

“She attacked Halsey for paying tribute to her and now Blake. She attacked Selena Gomez after inviting her to her botched wedding. She body shamed Xtina and her dancers. Just weird, sad and insecure. And she looks awful as always,” wrote a second user. A third said, “Britney should stop attacking everyone who pays tribute to her… We are sick of it.”
