“I want to fight” … Serghei Spivac is challenged by a 21-3 Brazilian after a first-round submission win at UFC Vegas 95

While the “Polar Bear” refused to challenge anyone in his interview with Bisping immediately after the fight, it didn’t take long for a potential next opponent to raise his hand.

Another lackluster UFC Fight Night at the Apex ended on at least a somewhat exciting note when Moldovan Serghei Spivac returned to winning ways with a submission win just 104 seconds into the first round.

Serghei Spivac earns additional $50,000 with first-round revenge at UFC Vegas 95

Serghei Spivac avenged his 2020 unanimous decision loss to Marcin Tybura with a convincing first-round submission last night in Las Vegas, a win that earned the “Polar Bear” an additional $50,000 POTN bonus.

Since that first fight against the Pole, and including the win in this weekend's UFC Vegas 95 rematch, Spivac has a 7-2 record in the promotion, with the two losses coming against Ciryl Gane and now-interim champion Tom Aspinall.

More importantly, Spivac's win at the Apex continues his rise up the heavyweight rankings, and with Tuesday's update expected to see him take the place of No. 8-ranked Tybura, the question is what's next for the 29-year-old.

Jailton Almeida challenges Serghei Spivac, “Polar Bear” responds in kind

Speaking to Bisping in the Octagon, Spivac did not have a specific name for who he would like to fight next: “To be honest, no exact name, but anyone who is above me in the rankings, 100% someone who is above me.”

But just a few minutes later, Spivac's next potential opponent seemed to come to the fore in the form of Brazilian wrecking ball Jailton Almeida.

“Spivac, do you want someone above you in the rankings?” Almeida wrote on social media, adding, “I'm in!! #7 vs. #8. I want to fight bro! Glad you're finishing early so we can fight soon!”

Almeida has a 7-1 record in the UFC and recently rebounded from a bad TKO loss to Curtis Blaydes in June by defeating Alexandr Romanov with a slick first-round submission.

When asked if it would be possible to face the Brazilian finisher at the post-fight press conference, Spivac simply said: “Let him train.”

But the “Polar Bear” also stated that he would be ready to face the winner of the Ciryl Gane vs. Alexander Volkov fight, which is scheduled to take place on October 26 on the main card of UFC 308: Topuria vs. Holloway in Abu Dhabi.

“I'm ready to fight either of them. Whoever wins, I'm happy to fight the winner,” Spivac told reporters.

Although Almeida wanted to “fight soon,” that may not happen, as Spivac later revealed to the UFC News team that he accepted the rematch against Tybura despite an injury that would take time to recover from.

“I had to take this fight due to injury, there was no turning back, so I want to take some time to heal and make sure everything is OK. During that time, I expect a lot to change in the heavyweight division.

“I would love to fight someone who is ranked above me, but right now I just want to get better and see what happens.”

With the victory in Las Vegas, Serghei Spivac improves his record as a professional to 17:4.
