IDF expands arrests of soldiers accused of sodomy in Sde Teiman – Israel News

0

The Israeli public prosecutor has asked the military court to extend the detention of five guards at the Israeli prison Sde Teiman until Tuesday. They are accused of sodomy against a Palestinian prisoner suspected of terrorism.

At the same time, the Israeli Public Prosecutor's Office has stated that it has no objection to initiating a social work evaluation procedure for the prison guards in order to examine the possibility of placing them under house arrest or placing them in another situation that makes full detention unnecessary.

The fact that the Israeli prosecutor has taken this stance suggests that it is close to completing important aspects of its investigation and may even be closer to bringing charges.

Accusations against the guards

On July 29, 10 guards were arrested for alleged sodomy and beating. Two were quickly released and three others were released a few days later after their detention was initially extended by an Israeli investigative court.

Since then, the prison terms of the remaining five suspected prison guards have been extended several times.

On several occasions, the Israeli Pre-Trial Court and even once the Israeli Court of Appeal have ruled in favor of the prosecution, indicating that the evidence is much stronger than has so far been made public.

The Jerusalem Post considers that the evidence includes a large proportion of medical reports and statements from medical experts, as well as video recordings of aspects of the alleged torture.

The defense pointed out that at least one of the medical reports was unclear as to the cause of the physical injury to the Palestinian prisoner's rectum.
