The Metropolitan Police have released images of two men they believe may have been involved in an incident of major unrest in Whitehall, central London.

More than 100 people were arrested after clashes broke out between protesters and police during a demonstration on Wednesday evening, July 31.

It was one of several incidents across England and Northern Ireland that broke out following the fatal stabbing of three girls during a dance class in Southport.

Police said they were reviewing “a huge amount of footage and other evidence” to identify any remaining suspects as police continued their investigation.

During the incident, protesters were seen throwing flares at the gates of Downing Street and a statue of Winston Churchill.

People were heard chanting slogans such as “Stop the boats” and “Save our children” while throwing bottles and cans at police.

Police said they had made arrests for a range of offences, including violent disorder, an attack on a rescue worker and violating protest conditions.
