TEHRAN – Arian Salimi of Iran scored an impressive victory over Britain's Caden Cunningham in the men's over 80 kg taekwondo competition at Paris 2024 on Saturday and will compete in the next three Olympic Games.

The Iranian fought bravely after trailing a round in a cautious but thrilling men's heavyweight bout. Salimi struck frequently in the second round before the Olympic title was decided in the dying seconds of the final round when Salimi landed the decisive punches.

“I am 20 years old and I certainly have plans for the next three Olympic Games,” said Salimi, looking forward to a bright future in the sport. “I will start step by step [towards] Los Angeles 2028 and then the other Olympic Games.”
