New traffic light on Route 178 in Crownsville/Annapolis

0

The State Highway Administration of the Maryland Department of Transportation will begin installing a new traffic signal on MD 178 (Generals Highway) at Knollwood Drive in Anne Arundel County this month. The signal is scheduled for completion and operation in late summer, weather permitting.

The part-time signal will be fully operational during arrival and departure times at nearby Rolling Knolls Elementary School; a video detection system will direct traffic flow. At all other times, the signal will flash yellow for MD 178 entrances and red for side street entrances to increase driver awareness at the intersection.

Crews will work during off-peak hours to install the new signal. Improvements include improved signage and new pavement markings. Contractor McClean Contracting Inc. of Glen Burnie will deploy a striping system as needed, as well as temporary traffic signs, buoys and cones to guide motorists through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration thanks customers for their patience during this necessary work to maintain and improve the transportation system. Drivers are asked to remain alert and focused, pay attention to reduced speed limits and changes in driving patterns, and slow down in construction areas. Motorists in need can dial 77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.

For more information, customers may contact the State Highway Administration District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll free at 1-800-331-5603.
