According to Shuhei Matsumoto, producer of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, Capcom wants to revive all of its old fighting games on modern platforms.

Speaking to IGN at EVO 2024 recently, Matsumoto explained that Capcom is aware of the demand and hopes that making these classic fighting games accessible to new audiences could lead to “bigger and better things” in the future:

“We have a lot of other classic fighting games that we know the fans out there really want to see released again on modern platforms, and on the development side, the mutual feeling is, we want people to get to know all these other classic games. What we can do now is try to get them released again so people who maybe never had a chance to play those games can get familiar with them, and from there, hopefully we can move on to bigger and better things.”

In a separate question about the possibility of re-releasing a game like Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (again) Matsumoto reiterated that the team is “definitely” ready for more re-releases:

“We want all our classic [fighting] Games that we want to be available on modern consoles because we just want to reach as many people as possible who maybe never had the chance to play these games back then. So we're constantly thinking ahead and wanting to make sure it's as accessible as possible for all audiences.”
