The Auckland-based fighter's cultural heritage plays such an important role in his life that when he's not fighting or in training camp for a fight, he travels to scenic Tahiti to train other Pacific Island fighters. But even there, more than four thousand kilometers from his birthplace, he has distant relatives.

One of the most significant and moving experiences in the Kiwi's life was when he met an old woman in a hut in Tahiti. The woman, a native Tahitian, was related by blood to the Waikato Tainui tribe, who are among the flyweight's ancestors. He was fascinated by the interaction and really appreciated how connected all Pacific Island people were. All of this shows that although Kai Kara-France has spent his entire life in Auckland, far from his ancestral villages, he has a deep and abiding connection to his Maori heritage.
