Man Utd are reportedly considering a stunning £50m transfer for a 19-year-old striker

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are considering a £50 million transfer for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

The Red Devils have long been interested in the young player and are reportedly concerned that Chelsea could get ahead of them in signing him.

Erik ten Hag's side have already signed Joshua Zirkzee for £32 million, but he may need time to adjust to the Premier League.

They want to increase firepower in attack and believe Ferguson would be a good option.

The 19-year-old joined the Seagulls in January 2021 and has since made 65 appearances in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing five assists.

He suffered a serious injury last season but still played in 27 Premier League games and scored six goals.

Ferguson played mainly as a centre-forward last season, but he can also play on the wings.

However, the Irish international has a contract with Brighton until 2029 and therefore a high transfer fee would have to be demanded to persuade the club to sell one of its most valuable assets.

United need reinforcements in attack with their top striker Rasmus Hojlund out until the end of September after suffering a thigh injury during the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

They have also been linked with Brentford's Ivan Toney, who is reportedly looking to join the Red Devils this summer.

Toney has entered the final year of his contract with the Bees but does not appear ready to sign an extension.
