Amit Aggarwal unveiled ANTEVORTA at the India Couture Week held recently in Delhi. Inspired by the Roman goddess of the future who is always present at birth, ANTEVORTA symbolizes the timeless connection between time and the universe. The collection intricately weaves philosophical, mythological, religious, scientific and cosmological influences into a temporal narrative.

ANTEVORTA is an exploration of 'time' through five different identities who experience time in every fleeting moment, experience time as a one-way sequence, experience time as an eternal cycle, experience time as a magician and as the center of balance. In his collection, he introduced new textiles and techniques and blended them with the brand's signature style and philosophy to create a truly distinctive narrative. Amit believes that the fashion industry is going through a significant transformation post-pandemic.

Edited excerpts from the interview:

Tell us about ANTEVORTA, your latest collection at India Couture Week.

ANTEVORTA – our new couture line is named after the Roman goddess of the future. This collection delves deeply into the concept of time, combining mythology with modernity. It features a harmonious blend of intricate craftsmanship and avant-garde techniques, creating pieces that are both contemporary and timeless. Each garment tells a unique story and captures the essence of fleeting and eternal moments, making the collection a true celebration of the past, present and future.

What do you think about the revival of the weave?

Reviving traditional weaving techniques is more than a trend; it's a cultural and artistic revival. By combining these ancient techniques with modern fashion, we honor our heritage and the artisans behind these crafts. This approach preserves traditional skills, introduces them to a global audience, and creates a dialogue between tradition and contemporary aesthetics.

How local do we become when it comes to fashion?

Fashion is becoming increasingly local, with a deep appreciation for indigenous craftsmanship and materials. Designers are exploring regional techniques and stories to create pieces that are both authentic and globally appealing. This shift supports our local artisan families while also minimizing the environmental impact of production. It is a harmonious blend of local heritage and global vision that ensures each creation is unique and carries a piece of cultural history within it.

What do you say about the fashion business? Has it gotten better, especially now that the pandemic is over and things look different than they did in the last two years?

The fashion industry has undergone a profound transformation following the pandemic. Sustainability and conscious consumption are becoming increasingly important. Shoppers are now more demanding and value quality and authenticity over quantity. This change benefits brands that value ethical practices and craftsmanship. In addition, the digital revolution has accelerated, making online platforms essential for reaching a wider audience. Overall, the industry is moving towards a more sustainable and innovative future that balances creativity and commercial success.

Fashion vs. style, which do you prefer and what is the difference?

Style is everything. While fashion is constantly changing, style is personal and enduring. Fashion reflects trends, but style is individual expression and authenticity. Our designs combine these concepts, offering pieces that are both trendy and timeless, allowing wearers to showcase their unique style while staying fashionable.
