UFC Vegas 95: Serghei Spivac aims for a rise in the rankings after revenge victory over Marcin Tybura – “Now I know my place”

0

Serghei Spivac sensationally secured a stoppage victory in the first round against Marcin Tybura at the UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas, thus taking revenge for his previous loss to the Pole.

Spivac wasted no time and ended the fight with a perfectly timed submission in just one minute and 44 seconds.

These two fighters already faced each other in February 2020 in the Joseph Benavidez vs. Deiveson Figueiredo fight, with the Moldovan suffering a unanimous point loss.

But here he achieved his victory in a way that was clinical and ruthless in every way. Somehow he managed to apply an armbar while Tybura was on top and the Pole had no choice but to give up.

It seemed to come out of nowhere as the two heavyweights traded early blows before Spivac landed the decisive takedown.

He hid this perfectly with a takedown combination, and although Tybura gained the upper hand in a wild exchange, Spivac recovered brilliantly and finished the fight.

“Thank God we won quickly. I have become much more confident and I know my place now. I deserve to be here and now I will continue and achieve better results.”

“Some people don't like me or the way I fight, others do. I don't really focus on that, the most important thing in my life is my family – I do it for them.”

“The Polar Bear” revealed how he had to overcome the pain threshold to achieve victory and is now looking forward to a fight against a fighter who is above him in the heavyweight rankings.

“I had to fight this fight despite an injury and there was no turning back, so I want to take the time to heal and make sure everything is OK,” explained the winner.

“I expect a lot of things will change in the heavyweight rankings during that time. I would love to fight someone better than me, but right now I just want to get better and see what happens.”

Elsewhere, Chepe Mariscal defeated Damon Jackson by unanimous decision as the judges scored the fight 30-25, 30-25, 30-26 in his favor.

Both fighters emerged from the grueling fight covered in blood, but Mariscal came out on top and seemed able to respond to whatever came his way in this all-American featherweight bout.

Meanwhile, in the highly competitive main event, Danny Barlow was also able to defeat Nikolay Veretennikov in a welterweight bout by a split decision.

Chris Gutierrez won the bantamweight bout by unanimous decision against Quang Le, while Yana Santos also came out on top against Chelsea Chandler on all three scorecards.

The main card began with a second-round submission bout by Toshiomi Kazama against Charalampos Grigoriou in a bantamweight bout.
