Families of Robb Elementary School shooting victims respond to Uvalde City release of documents

SAN ANTONIO – It's horrifying to see the chaos, but some families of the 19 children and two teachers killed at Robb Elementary want you to see the response.

Among the numerous recordings released by the City of Uvalde on Saturday is a clip from Police Sergeant Daniel Coronado's body camera.

The video shows for the first time the moment officers entered classrooms, more than 70 minutes after a gunman entered the school and opened fire.

Jesse Rizo, whose nine-year-old son Jackie Cazares was killed in the shooting, watched it.

“They're not afraid of the shooter,” Rzio noted of the police officers in the video. “They're afraid of the gun.”

He has spent the last few hours studying the newly released records, which include footage from body cameras, dashboard cameras, emails, text messages and 911 calls.

“They are almost speechless,” he said. “And I am at a loss for words, to be honest.”

“What do you think about the fact that all these records are now public and anyone can see them?” asked reporter Daniela Ibarra.

“You know, we have been asking to see this information for two years,” Rizo replied.

Brett Cross was the guardian of 10-year-old Uziyah Garcia. The little boy was killed in the shooting.

Cross wants to know why there is bodycam footage from only five Uvalde police officers, 25 of whom were dispatched to Robb Elementary School the day of the shooting.

“What are they hiding?” asked Cross.

A text message from Staff Sergeant Eduardo Canales of Uvalde shows that some officers did not record the video or did not carry a body camera.

“In every little piece of information we get, there is always a grain of truth that we didn't know,” Cross said.

The details are hard to digest.

“It's unbelievable. You know, maybe something like this will change your mind and you'll have a little more support,” Rizo said.

“I want everyone to see everything, right down to the bodies of our children. I want people to see everything so they realize this is a nightmare. This is something that cannot be put into words. And this is our reality,” Cross said.
