Disturbing #SugaChallenge trend promoting drunk driving emerges after BTS' Suga's DUI controversy

0

PETALING JAYA, August 11 – There have been numerous extremely dangerous online challenges.

From the Tide Pod challenge, which involved consuming laundry detergent, to Nyquil Chicken, a recipe that involves cooking poultry in liquid medicine, there are endless examples of dangerous scenarios that many of these challenges entail.

Now comes one of the potentially most dangerous cases: the #SugaChallenge, which is about drunk driving. Or at least what it looks like.

#SugaChallenge

The #SugaChallenge was reported to have been started by members of ARMY (the nickname of BTS fans) on social media, although many from the fan community have spoken out to denounce the dangerous trend.

How did it start

It follows the ongoing controversy surrounding the K-pop star's drunken driving incident, where his blood alcohol content was found to be nearly eight times the legal limit.

According to Koreaboo, Suga initially claimed he only drank one glass of beer, but this appeared to be false after he was found drunk after falling off an electric scooter.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.

So what IS #SugaChallenge

It's about drinking and driving, and about posting pictures of drinking and driving, sometimes of yourself behind the wheel – which is not only illegal and dangerous, but also undeniably stupid, whether it's the actual act of driving while under the influence or just pictures glorifying the idea of it.

The trend is particularly clear for X.

But did the fans REALLY start it?

While some pointed out that the alleged trend was most likely just trolling, others argued that it was only intended to distract from the case.

It is important to note that it is verified whether the challenge actually comes from real fans or was promoted by them.

Nevertheless, this reckless behavior on the Internet should be nipped in the bud.
