Man from Harlingen admits possession of narcotics and a pistol after arrest

A 20-year-old man is in custody after a traffic stop found him in possession of a handgun and cocaine. He admitted to having additional narcotics in his home, according to the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.

According to a press release, Carlos Joaquin Villanueva is charged with several drug offenses and illegal possession of a weapon.

The traffic stop took place in Olmito around 5 p.m. on Thursday, the press release said. It was carried out in the vehicle driven by Villanueva, and officers found cocaine and a pistol in his possession, the press release said.

Villanueva was taken into custody and “admitted to possession of the cocaine and handgun found during the traffic stop,” the press release said.

According to the press release, Villanueva confessed to possessing additional narcotics at his home in Harlingen, where cocaine, mushrooms, THC oil and four pounds of marijuana were found.

Villanueva remains in custody on $120,000 bail.
