Expected squad after NFL preseason win against 49ers

0

Every Sunday through the end of Tennessee Titans training camp, The Tennessean will make predictions about what the Titans' 53-man roster will look like when their 2024 NFL season begins on Sept. 8 against the Chicago Bears. After the third week of training camp practices and the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, we're making predictions about the 53-man roster and which players are in doubt ahead of joint training and next week's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Quarterbacks (3): Will Levis, Mason Rudolph, Malik Willis

On the brink: N/A

Running back (4): Tony Pollard, Tyjae Spears, Hassan Haskins, Julius Chestnut

On the brink: Chestnut. Right now, it makes sense for the Titans to use four running backs. However, if DeAndre Hopkins' injury continues into the regular season, that could change.

Wide Receivers (6): DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd, Treylon Burks, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Jha'Quan Jackson

On the brink: Jackson, Kyle Philips, Mason Kinsey, Kearis Jackson. The last slot receiver spot is still up for grabs, and the punt return job should be included. Depending on Hopkins' injury, there's again the possibility that several players could start the year off the practice squad if the Titans are missing an active receiver.

Tight Ends (4): Josh Whyle, Chig Okonkwo, Nick Vannett, Thomas Odukoya

On the brink: Odukoya. He is above the line this week after starting the season opener, but Vannett's health could cause fluctuations in his position.

Offensive Line (9): JC Latham, Peter Skoronski, Lloyd Cushenberry III, Dillon Radunz, Nicholas Petit-Frere, Geron Christian Sr., Jaelyn Duncan, Daniel Brunskill, Andrew Rupcich

On the brink: Rupcich, Leroy Watson IV, John Ojukwu. Rupcich currently ranks last for versatility reasons, but the competition between Watson and Ojukwu in the tackle room continues.

Titans depth chart: Defense, special teams

Inner Defense Line (5): Jeffery Simmons, T'Vondre Sweat, Sebastian Joseph-Day, Marlon Davidson, Keondre Coburn

On the brink: Coburn, TK McLendon Jr. It's a battle between extra size and extra outside help. Right now, it comes down to size.

HEATING: T'Vondre Sweat's power, Will Levis' attitude, Calvin Ridey's speed add up to the best game in Titans camp

Edge defenders (4): Harold Landry III, Arden Key, Rashad Weaver, Jaylen Harrell

On the brink: Shane Ray, Caleb Murphy. Key's impending suspension complicates matters, but right now the backups appear to be below average, with Harrell a potential rotation option.

Centre-backs (5): Kenneth Murray II, Jack Gibbens, Chance Campbell, Cedric Gray, Luke Gifford

On the brink: Gifford, Otis Reese IV, James Williams. Injuries have made this position a bit of an odd spot. Gifford's value on special teams keeps him up in this practice, but Reese has been stepping up in camp lately and Williams' rookie potential is high.

Cornerbacks (6): L'Jarius Sneed, Chidobe Awuzie, Roger McCreary, Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Tre Avery, Gabe Jeudy-Lally

On the brink: Jeudy-Lally, Eric Garror. The undrafted rookie is just ahead of Garror here, but it's really a question of whether the Titans want additional nickel help (Garror) or outside coverage help (Jeudy-Lally).

Security (4): Amani Hooker, Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams, Elijah Molden

On the brink: Mike Brown. If the Titans have room to play five safeties, Brown is the choice. But that's not the highest priority right now unless Molden moves back into the cornerback role, which he hasn't done yet.

NOT DEAD YET: Don’t call Tennessee Titans DB Quandre Diggs too old. He’s already pissed off enough,

Specialists (3): Ryan Stonehouse, Nick Folk, Morgan Cox

On the brink: Ty Zentner. Only if Stonehouse isn't ready, but by all indications he should be ready in September.
