Due to the sharp increase in the number of fatal motorcycle accidents in recent weeks, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is urging motorcyclists and motorists to be alert and cautious and to avoid any type of risky driving style when on the road.

So far this year, 36 motorcyclists have died on OPP-policed roads, compared to 23 deaths during the same period last year. In over half of the deaths, the actions of the driver leading to the collision were on the part of the motorcyclist.

Twelve of the year's fatal accidents occurred in July, and five more motorcyclists died in the first week of August. The accidents were caused by factors including excessive speed, loss of control and incorrect overtaking.

To prevent senseless deaths on the road, it is enough for drivers to drive safely and attentively. Motorcyclists must also do their part to ensure safety by obeying the speed limit and obeying all traffic laws. This contributes significantly to the safety of drivers and their passengers.
