Obituary for Mary C. Baldwin | Southern Maryland

Mary C. Baldwin, 95, of St. Leonard, Maryland, passed away surrounded by family on August 9, 2025. Mary was born on September 12, 1928 in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Arthur M. and Maria Granados McKnew.

Mary was a devout Catholic and worked as an event manager for St. Bernard Catholic Church in Riverdale, MD. She was a district organizer for the Girl Scotts in the 60's and 70's. Mary loved animals, bred and trained Weimaraners and was a member of the Weimaraner Club as well as the Canine Training Association and the Chesapeake All Breed Kennel Club. She was a founding director of Friends of Felines and CAWL here in Calvert County.

Mary also had a passion for growing, drying, cutting and arranging flowers, which she sold at the Cecil Ole Mill Store. In her later years, Mary scaled back most of these activities, with the exception of growing hay and caring for cats and a few dogs. In 2015, Mary was awarded the “You Are Beautiful” award by the Calvert County Commissioners for her selfless dedication and outstanding volunteer work for Calvert County.

Mary was the wife of the late Joseph T. Baldwin, mother of Maria C. Winklepleck, Grace Marie Baldwin, Barbara J. Sampson, Maureen Elizabeth Whisner and her husband Jeffrey, Gregory Thomas Baldwin and his wife Shiela, Bruce Edward Baldwin and his wife Diana, the late Timothy Andrew Baldwin and the late Brian Bernard Baldwin. She was a grandmother of 15 children, great-grandmother of 24 children and great-great-grandmother of 3 children. She is also survived by her siblings Roseanne McKnew and Joanne Lodowski. She was predeceased by her brothers Arthur McKnew and Richard McNew and her sister Louise Gunnell.
