Donald TrumpThe former president's campaign confirmed Saturday that it had been hacked and several internal documents leaked. This came after POLITICO first reported receiving emails from an anonymous account. The former president's spokesman said the documents were “illegally obtained from foreign sources hostile to the United States.” The email included a section on JD Vance's previous Trump-baiting – listed under “POTENTIAL VULNERABILITY”.

“These documents were illegally obtained from foreign sources hostile to the United States. Their goal was to influence the 2024 election and create chaos in our democratic process,” Steven Cheung, communications director for Trump's campaign, said in an email to Axios and POLITICO.

He also cited a new Microsoft report saying Iranian hackers were targeting a U.S. presidential campaign. The company, led by Satya Nadella, did not confirm whether Trump's campaign was attacked.

“On Friday, a new report from Microsoft found that Iranian hackers broke into the account of a 'senior official' in the US presidential election campaign in June 2024, coinciding with President Trump's selection of a vice presidential candidate,” Cheung added, providing no evidence to support his claim.

“This comes after recent reports of an Iranian assassination attempt on President Trump, which occurred around the same time as the tragedy in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Cheung said.

POLITICO reported that the documents also included a research dossier vetting JD Vance before he was announced as Trump's vice presidential nominee, which listed the Ohio senator's past criticisms of Trump as “POTENTIAL WEAKNESSES.”

The media company cited two sources who confirmed the authenticity of the documents.
