People's Republic of China Li Qian cemented her name in the history books after winning a historic triple crown with a gold medal in the women’s 75 kg final at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Saturday, August 10th.

The victory came shortly after the silver medal at Tokyo 2020 and bronze from Rio2016This makes her the first and only woman in the sport to ever make it to an Olympic podium at three consecutive Games.

“I took the fights step by step,” Li said after her match.

“But it was always my dream to win a gold medal and it has finally come true… I was just so proud of my country when I saw the flag.”

As a former world champion and top-ranked boxer in her category, Li was the clear favorite to win gold, but Panama’s Atheyna Bylon did not make it easy for her in the final, gave her a tough fight, but finally lost to Li 4:1.

Although Bylon had to settle for the silver medal, she still achieved a great performance and was Panama's first woman to win an Olympic medal.

“It's not what I wanted, but I got a medal, so I'm happy,” she said after the game.

“This is a historic event, so I'm really happy about it… I'm sure I'll have a great reception when I return to Panama, even if I don't take home any gold.”

On 8 August Caitlin Parker and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team Cindy Ngumba secured the bronze medals after losing in the semifinals to Li and Bylon respectively.
