An Israeli airstrike killed 19 terrorists at a Hamas command center in a mosque on the grounds of a school in Gaza City, the Israeli military said on Saturday evening. The army also rejected unconfirmed claims that the attack caused widespread collateral damage.

The 19 confirmed terrorists killed belonged to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The Israeli Defense Forces have published an infographic listing the 19 killed and their affiliations.

“The terrorist organization Hamas systematically violates international law and operates from civilian infrastructure and civilian shelters. It brutally abuses the civilian population and institutions as human shields for its terrorist activities,” the Israeli army said.

“The attack was carried out with three types of precise ammunition, which, according to professional analysis, cannot cause the damage reported by the Hamas-run government information office in Gaza. In addition, no serious damage was caused to the area where the terrorists were located,” the army said.

“Numerous steps were taken prior to the attack to reduce the risk of harm to civilians, including the use of a small warhead, aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering.”

According to Hamas, 90 people were killed. However, this number has not been independently verified. The Hamas-led government in the Gaza Strip has inflated the number of victims in the past.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad have repeatedly used schools as command centers, hideouts, observation and sniper locations, tunnel entrances and weapons depots. Israel on Thursday attacked two schools in Gaza City that were used by Hamas for attacks.

At least 1,200 people were killed and 252 Israelis and foreigners taken hostage in Hamas' attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 111 remaining hostages, 39 were declared dead. Hamas has also held two Israeli civilians captive since 2014 and 2015, as well as the bodies of two soldiers killed in 2014.
