Godzilla Minus One finally confirms first streaming release

0

A streaming release date has finally been announced for “Godzilla Minus One,” but with one caveat.

The Oscar-winning Japanese-language film will be available on Prime Video on May 3. The caveat is that this is only for Japan; streaming release dates for territories like the UK and US have not been announced at the time of writing.

There's a reason fans have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see the film again.

Not only does the film boast visual effects, for which it won an Oscar despite having a fraction of the budget of most Hollywood blockbusters, but it is also the most successful Japanese film in the series and has received much praise for its story.

Although Godzilla plays a major role in the film, a large focus is placed on the destruction of Japanese homes, economy, and population after the war. The main character, Kōichi Shikishima, tries to rebuild his life while battling post-traumatic stress disorder.

As for physical releases, Japan will get a selection of home releases starting May 1, led by a snazzy 4-disc set that includes the 4K Ultra HD version, Blu-ray discs for both the color and black-and-white versions, and another Blu-ray disc full of bonus material.

It comes with gorgeous packaging, art cards and also a booklet.

Again, only a physical release has been announced for Japan at this time, but given the film's global popularity, fans in other territories will hopefully receive digital and physical releases sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, the US-produced film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is still in theaters, and although it hasn't reached the critical acclaim of Minus One, it has received fairly good reviews and done well at the box office.
